  • Traveler's palm or Ravenala madagascariensis is not a true palm, but is closely related to banana tree family and bird-of-paradise family. This monocotyledonous flowering plant is from Madagascar and has a beautiful display of leaves. The leaves are paddle shaped or banana leaf shaped and grows on east-west line. This acts as a compass for the travelers and this is the reason for the name travelers’ palm.

    These plants are great addition to landscapes and are fast growing. All in all, this is one unique plant. They are grown for their attractive leaf pattern. Its stunning appearance has made it into something of a horticultural celebrity and one can usually find the traveler's palm growing in larger botanical gardens around the world.

    Feeding the plant with a balanced and all-purpose fertilizer once in a month is beneficial.
