Ficus Benjamina (Weeping Fig/Ficus Tree/Benjamin Fig)
- Plant Care
There is a variety of this plant that can be planted as houseplants. One of them is Ficus Benjamina or weeping fig. The weeping fig Ficus Benjamina is among the most popular plants to cultivate. The graceful branches of the fig bear the most beautiful dark green leaves or variegated. It's perfect for a corner of the office or at home.
This plant is a favourite among fans due to its tolerance to harsh growing conditions. The simple, low-maintenance home plant will provide beautiful lush foliage and air purifying.
The name given to the Benjamina genus suggests a high dose of surrealism since it references a resin known as Benzoin that is not present inside the plant. However, Benzoin resin, or the balsamic Benzoin, i.e. the exudate of resin or sap of Benzoin, is the sole basis of the bark of several species of trees of the Styrax genus, particularly from the species Styrax benzoin. Even in these species, it is not the chemical substance Benzoin is not present. However, it's made in the laboratory with Benzoin resin's help. It is possible to say that although the name Benjamina is an exemplary example of surrealism in science, it's also a concrete illustration of a botanist who has failed name naming, an excellent example of what not to do.
Ficus Benjamina thrives in bright indirect or filtered light. When watering, always check the top of the soil first. If the top of the soil is wet, do not water as this means they have enough moisture.Rich, humusy, and well-drained soil.18 – 25 °CApply liquid fertilizer once in 15 days during the growing season.
