Ficus Elastica 'Robusta' (Rubber Plant)
- Plant Care
The plant is known as the rubber (Ficus elastica), a well-known decorative plant belonging to the Ficus genus. When in its native habitats, it is more than 30 meters tall. But, the species grown indoors have a lower height and are more manageable. This is an ideal choice for indoor growers looking for a tree species with beautiful foliage that grows up to 8 feet tall.
There are a variety of Ficus elastica varieties that can be successfully grown indoors, including "the most common one," F.elastica decora (has glossy leather-like leaves that grow up to a foot in length), F.elastica robusta (has more leaves than the decora), F.elastica black prince or the burgundy (has nearly the color of reddish, black leaves) and a variety of different varieties. Itt is a favorite among gardeners and designers alike with its dark, glossy leaves. It is an excellent option for an air-purifying plant and an ornamental that flourishes under conditions like the Indian environment and can last for a long time when properly cared for. That isn't much, to begin with. Take it home, and see it grow along with you.
A nice brightly lit spot is ideal, without direct sunlight.Water once the soil becomes slightly dry to the touch and make sure the pot has sufficient drainage holes to allow excess water to seep through. The worst thing you can do regarding watering is "give it too much".A well-draining and well-aerated potting soil is needed.15 - 25°CFeed during summer with a diluted liquid fertilizer.
