Guava is a shrub or small tree with a single or multi-stemmed trunk. This plant has been in cultivation so long, it's not exactly known where it originated. These plants are attractive and produce deliciously rich, sweet fruits that are excellent fresh or in desserts. The flowers have an exotic appearance, with a star-like burst of stamens in the center.
Usually grown as small trees, they might reach 20 feet. They like moderately warm, humid conditions. Guava plants thrive in any soil with good drainage and full sun for best flowering and fruit production. You can keep the plant smaller with careful pruning in the early summer, thus increasing the chances of getting fruit.
